Painting Seashells

Today, I thought it would be fun for the kids to paint seashells! Luckily, we are about 10 mins from the beach, so we took a quick trip beachside to explore and find some shells. I love the beach - there's just something about the ocean breeze and the salt in the air that makes me feel fresh and alive. What's really cool is that once you cross over the causeway, you are surrounded by the peaceful river on one side of the road...

...and the beautiful ocean on the other side :)

 I love it!

The kids got right to work! They found lots of shells right away!

It was an absolutely gorgeous afternoon!

Riley collected a ton of shells!

Noah had mostly sand in his bag, so after we filtered out the shells, he had a good little handful in there :)

Once we got home, it was time to paint! But first thing's first - we must eat! While the kids ate a late lunch, I cooked up a batch of cornstarch paint, then watched some Monsters, Inc, while waiting for it to cool :) (This project also works really good using markers on the shells instead of paint - quicker and less messy too!)

After rinsing and drying the shells, it was finally time to get to work!

Takes much concentration :)

Noah found a small piece of concrete (i think?), so why not paint that too?!

Who needs a paintbrush? Let's toss it directly into the paint instead!

And then dip it into all of the other colors as well.

Wow!

The finished product! Time to dry!

I think the gelatinous mini slab of concrete is my favorite one :)

The kids had a blast with this project! They had a chance to be creative, get messy, and have fun! We will be sure to collect more seashells soon for some more fun - maybe with glitter next time?! I sure hope so!
